Mecki Mark Men - Livingroom (2007)

2007 Mecki Bodemark of the legendery Swedish Psychelia band Mecki Mark Men released an album to celebrate MMM 40th anniversery. Musically the album is somewhere in between Mk2 MMM and MMM 's later more jazz rock oriented album Flying High. This album is surpricingly solid and features several great nummers, of which "Harmony" is my choice cut. If you like this album please get a copy from Vesper records and support Mecki. Glans Över Sjö & Strand - Är du lönsam lille vän? 1970 (SWE)

This is a topdrawer Folkrock band from SWE in the vein of Bob Dylan. You could say these guys do Dylan here better than the man himself.. yet still the band has their own thing going down. The name is taken from a SWE Xmas song/piece and the title means approx: Are you profitable little friend? Yes lyrics are leftist but well crafted and ofcourse in Swedish. If you like quality folkrock with Dylan vibe you'll love this. This one of SWE 70's best bands and album. This is a rare Lp rip and a new CD reissue exists. Best to you all, enjoy!

Bo Hansson - Sagan om Ringen 1970 (SWE)

Welcome to another post with great Swedish underground psychedelia. This time you get the first solo album of Hansson & Karlsson organ player Bo Hansson. H&K was an pioneering SWE Psych duo that started playing 1967, together on a small but very psychedelic scene, with other SWE legends like Mecki Mark Men, Pärsson Sound/International Harvestor. This album is often (and wrongly?) labeled as progressive rock. To my seasoned ears it's more a dark atmospheric Psychedelia album than a mere prog album. What impresses me the most on this album is Bo's way totally outthere psychedelic guitar work.. We're talking uber psych ..in the vein of Bo Anders Persson or SF's best! yet it still has that distintive SWE vibe and style. Enjoy this cult psych album and don't be shy to comment what you think of it. Peace!

Träd Gräs & Stenar - Live Kafe 44 Stockholm 13/5-2000

Here is a live tape by TGS from one of their Stockholm gigs at punk venue Kafe 44. The sound is quite good but for my taste Bo Anders leads are a bit low in the mix, but that doesn't affect the music. Here you have a chance to hear and experience the TGS live experience with both generic rockers and unworldly uber Psych trips rarely heard or witnessed since the heady late 60's and early 70's. The opening jam, the 15 min version of "Sommarlåten" (Summer song) and Persson sound song "Till Indien" will blow ya socks off. I want to dedicate this post to the living memory of Torbjörn Abelli and I want to give my heart felt condolences to his family. Please share this super rare live tape with everyone who might/can appreciate it. Now psych out........

I want to tell you that Swedish psychedelic/minimalsit Bass legend Torbjörn Abelli has died . May his good psychedelia and warm heartedness not be forgotten. A true real people dude who never compromised when it came to playing psychedelia. He was fortunete to have success late in his career and played some of the best and deeepest psychedelia ever witnessed on this earth. I was fortunete to see TGS live several times and experienced their psychedelic magic in person. Torbjörn you will live on in the hearts of fans of real psychedelia. To see you again one day.

Arbete & Fritid - Håll Andan 1979

More Swedish Psychedelia and or Avantgarde rock. Arbete & Fritid (Work & freetime/leisuretime ) were a band that kind of sounded like a mix of Swedish folk music, Free jazz and minimalistic Psych of Terry Riley. Very original and unique in many ways but somehow they have slipped the attention of Psych fans. This album features the rythm section of Träd Gräs & Stenar, more specifically Torbjörn Abelli (Bass) and Thomas Mera Gartz (drums) . Tracks here of special interst are "Dorisk drone" and "Thulcandra". These are deadringers for the psychedelic trance trips you expect from Träd gräs & stenar at their gigs when they let loose to speak..amazing stuff. Now I'll let you explore this SWE psych rarity and trip away...........

Wow finally a new post but what a post it is...uber Psych time once again. This is some really outthere overkill psychedelia in the SWE tradition of early Mecki Mark Men or Träd Gräs & Stenar. The first time I heard this album it blew my mind..,it was just too much for my than un trained mind. This is an amazing SWE Psych album that can only be called a real psychedelic album. Musically it's like a blend of the electronic sounds of 50 foot hose (US) and the long jam psych of Träd Gräs & Stenar. Yes now you can understand what I'm talking about. The name means Garden of the Elks (or Mooses garden) and the titile means "The future is a floating ship anchored in the past" Yes real people vibe and understanding. COLD SUN - Dark Shadows 1969

This is a real incredible Texas Psychedelia gem from 1969 that was not released until the early 1990's by Rockadelic records. I believe it was their second release and what a release this is. The guitarist has one of the most incredible way outthere psychedelic guitar sounds/style ever recorded. Top 5 Psych guitarists in my books. This Rockadelic reissue goes for $500 so that should say something about the music. It's just great late 60's Psych with an underground production and sound that we all love. This is a vinyl rip for ultimate feel and vibe. Have a mellow outhere experience with this gem. It's been recently reissued on CD aswell.

TRÄD GRÄS & STENAR - Djungelns Lag 1971

Swedens Träd gräs och Stenar (trans: Trees grass and Stones) is perhaps the ultimate psychedelic underground long jam band. If you think Grateful Dead or Quicksilver are stretched out and psychedelic than these guys take things further on onto an entirly different level. Technically TGS isn't as good as perhaps GD or QMS, but when it comes to psychedelic sounds and vibe and spirtual depth (a rare commodity in rock music) these guys take no backseat to anyone. German bands were similar but the arty plastic vibe in their music hindered them from achiving this that TGS gets through. TGS has a minimalist base influenced by dudes like Terry Riley but unlike the German Psych bands these guys leaned more to SF and the long jam format and wasted Acid lead guitar vibe and this makes the TGS experience so unique. I have posted here their 2nd album Djungelns Lag (trans: law of the jungle) from 1971. It's a Lo-Fi live recording done during the bands Scandinavian tour. You get both short crude underground folk psych numbers and the bands legendery long jam psych outs that clock from 9 to 30+ minutes. Due to the extreme rareness of this album I urge all of you to actively share this to everyone who is into this vibe. Don't fear leeching etc, it's about the music. Have a trip you won't forget.

FLÄSKET BRINNER 1971

This is a trip in wild jam based progressive Psych you won't soon forget. This is another cornerstone album when it comes to Swedish underground, real people Psych. Take Disraeli gears era Cream combine that with Grateful Deads 1968-69 era's wilder moves and include flute from Tull.. and top it off with some wild freaky jazz blow outs. This combined with that classic unique SWE hippie real people, underground vibe and you have an album that will blow ya socks off. These guys were top musicians and still they could combine that with a underground sound and vibe. Most guys like this fell victem to the high end studio progressive rock trap with plastic sounds that became the norm in the 80's, but not these guys..well their 2nd 2 Lp Fläsket 1972 is like that, the studio album atleast. The Live album is a keeper though. I've included "Grismakt"(Pig power) from that live album. Fläsket Brinner (trans: Pork is burning) first 2 tracks "Gånglåt"(trans: walking song) and "Tysta Finskan"(trans. Quiet Finnish woman) were recorded Live while they opened for Zappa. These tracks show case this bands amazing ability, passion and warm SWE psychedelic vibe in a way that will take your breath away to speak. The rest of the songs are shorter but just as good. This is a vinyl rip. There should be a Cd reissue now or a Cd boot or two. If you like this album I recommend you hear also Asoka (SWE) and Hurdy Gurdy(Den) they too played wild Hard psych like these guys. This band is another example of the greatness and uniqueness of the early 70's SWE Psych scene.

MECKI MARK MEN 1967 (SWE)

Mecki Mark Men were Swedens first Psychedelia band and this debut album from 1967 is so psychedelic and wasted that even the hardcore of both US and German Psych bands would be green with envy. The base is jazzy avantgarde like rock with wasted out there vocals and psyched out structures combined with sitar drone. This is not garagey jingle jangle pop psych of 1967 but hardcore acid psychedelia that became more the norm in the late 60's and early 70's than in 1967. This debut album is a cornerstone of Swedish underground psychedelia. Both Mecki Bodemark (Vocals & organ) and Thomas Mera Gartz (drums, still active with Träd Gräs och Stenar) are among the founding fathers of Swedish psychelia. Enjoy this vinyl rip of Swedish Psych history. This blog will focus on underground psychelia which is both good and original.
